When can I touch one?

I expect they'll be sold out in store by the time you're able to touch one. You'll be able to check them out after the queues dissipate, but it'll almost certainly be a case of having to wait for a future shipment to purchase.

I know - hence me saying that you'll be able to touch one (a display model)...but they'll be sold out of phones for purchase at that point. And you're certainly more patient than me.

Will the carriers and stores like Best Buy also have display models on the 19th? My closest Apple store is about 45 minutes away, and I expect my Best Buy and the carriers to not be too crowded. Just want to look at them since I'm not due for an upgrade until January.

No, I'm not. Couldn't/didn't wait. Bought 3 sight un seen iPhones today against all I've said.
Weeks away from delivery though.
