i have a Canon Vixia HV40 HD camcorder and a Macbook pro with the latest operating software.

Anyone know what is going on?

i can't work because it keeps crashing the program.
Nothing else running, doesn't do it with anyone else' camera either!

ej:(

Do you capture to the internal HDD or an external HDD?
What cable do you use?
What FCE version do you have and what are the exact capture and project settings?

Particular files on the camera or all files?

If it was me, I'd
  • use another USB cable,
  • use another port,
  • use iMovie to archive the card's contents,
  • import into FCE from the archive,
  • reformat the card.
  • replace the card

Probably in that order.

My bad.

  • Clean the heads.
  • Try a new tape
  • Try the same tape in a different camera
  • try a new cable
  • try a different port
  • try a different Mac

I get annoying dropouts on my Sony HDV all the time. Annoys the !@#$ out of me. Apart from that, I love it...

In the early days of DV cameras, dire warnings began emerging about the dangers of mixing tape brands. 10 years on, I think those warnings still apply. I find I can use Sony tapes or I can use anything else. Don't mix. Goddam u Sony.

I discovered this after our supply people changed from getting Panasonic tapes and started getting Sony tapes...

Keep the previous list for problems with USB transfer of AVCHD footage :D
