I am downloading the update now for my ipod touch 2g. Does it ask for payment before it installs? I just checked for updates and I chose "download and install".

Strange... If I remember correctly for 2.0 it required users to pay before they could download.

Is that right, anyone?

It seemed strange to me that I was able to get it. I have a few minutes left.

Its Installing! I was not asked to pay? The only thing I can think of is my ipod was replaced a few weeks ago by apple because of dust under the screen. Will wait and see. Too good to be true.

I just checked my purchase history and it did not show up...Yet.

Yes. I went with about 4 to 6 small specks under the screen. I showed it to the "genius" at my local apple store and replaced it with out question.

Downloading presently, after clicking thru the EULAs again, entering password & clicking Buy button again. iTunes says the download is 2+ hours. Happy to have it, no matter how long it takes. :)

Yes... it should have automatically taken the $$ from your account... thats what it did for me, since just 10 minutes earlier, i had bought an app and already entered my password on my macbook.

it automatically bills the credit card you used to make your itunes account

unless you made a free one like I did, then you got billed. If you were not charged, then you got lucky

Lucky me, I sold my 1g to get a 3g right when it comes out in september

Has not charged me. I bought a free app about twenty minutes ago and its on my bill in itunes.

Interesting...I hit Check for Update, and its showed the 3.0 update available. There was an option to download and install. I clicked it. It started downloading. I didn't get charged. (I have an iPod Touch 2G). I immediately though..."thats not right". I don't know if it will ask me to pay later down the road or something, but there is definitely a bug with their system now. Cause I didn't pay. (and i checked my account, no charges. I have a gift card credit on my account and no credit card, so it would be easy to tell)

I'll update my post later if I get charged.

Is it possible to pay for the update via the itunes credit that was added with itunes cards? Or do you need a credit card?

yeah, i'm pretty sure you can. I would have been able to tell you for sure, but iTunes gave me the iPod Touch update for free. I would have paid with an iTunes gift card.

This happened to me with the 2.0 update. I was ready to buy it, clicked "update" and it just started downloading the update. I never had to pay.

I just clicked check for updates and the panel telling me te feature came up. I still have $11.50 in my account. It hasn't charged me yet. I hope I cab use that money and get te SIMs 3. I'm also typig this on a touch 2G with 3.0
My touch has not been replaced. I bought it in May.
