When do new iPods usually come out?

I know they're announced in september, but when do they come out? I need a new one by September 20th, so I'm trying to find out if I can wait for the new ones or if I'll have ot settle on a current classic

The day they are announced, they are in the retail Apple Stores. I doubt they are in brick and mortar stores the same day they are announced, as Apple wants the customers to go into the Apple Store.
