I'd like to read some in-depth reviews from tech sites after they spend some time with it. Sure, it's incredibly tempting as a new toy but I'd really like to read about it's usefulness day to day. Any idea how soon reviews units get to the press and we begin to see these reviews (vs. simply the hands on in the demo room)?

The real question is when will the :apple: Watch Edition drop tests & will it blend arrive?

pure speculation. test units are in the hands of the press that attended the event, but there is an embargo that won't be lifted until the week of the release.

I get the feeling you will have to wait just a little longer for that :p

I guess it would be on Wednesday 22 of April.

Or even 2 days before the pre orders. Not really sure.

They usually do not lift embargo's until after a preorder stage. Good or bad, most companies wait.

Yeah, i'm like super interested in this, much more than the usual stuff.

Just is going to be very fun, either way it goes :D

Gruber wondered when and how review units will be given out. Normally, they hand it to them at events, but they didn't, and they won't mail them, so I'm guessing journos will be invited to go to their nearest Apple store on the 10th, when they'll be on display, and pick up their review unit there. The embargo will be lifted the day before or day of release.

Interesting, thanks! I guess I do remember this from the past. I was hoping to be able to read more before committing but I think I'm just gonna have to jump in!

Well Apple released iOS 8.2 with full :apple: Watch support for no damn reason... So I think that means review units are in hand. And 8.2 was publicly pushed out for all 5 reviewers to use

I don't know about the "pick up" part - more likely to be FedExed out. But agree w/ the rest. After reading the instant impressions of the tech media who were invited to the demo room it's clear the s/w still needs tweaking to smooth out scrolling and transitioning. No way Apple is going to loan out review models to Mossberg or Baig or Pogue, et al, that are not shipping units. So the 10th or so seems right with reviews popping up online the night of the 21st.

It was stated in the podcast that Apple has NEVER shipped out review units in the past. They are only given out in person. Probably to insure that the embargo is enforced.

I find the reviews to be somewhat bias, some are blatant . Apple chooses who to send them to, knowing they will get a positive review. First few weeks on MR threads gives me an indicator of how a product actually performs for people.
