Hey Guys,

I will be entering college this fall and am planning on getting a MacBook. When do you suspect Apple will either upgrade, or less likely, lower the price on the MacBook?

I really want to minimize my risk of buying a laptop and then having Apple update it the next day. :)

Any ideas? Thanks

There's always going to be an update around the corner...

But I would say at the latest, September.

That word is surprisingly accurate. Search the forums this people have created a thread asking the same question multiple times.

Ok, thanks for the help... Damn, that'll be cutting it really close.

School starts at the end of September for me, so we'll see!!

Hmmm...what would you suggest in the situation that they still haven't updated the MacBook by time school starts?

The obvious answer would be to just buy the current model since a laptop is pretty vital to a college education now, but do you think the upgrade will be significant enough to warrant a wait?

Most likely, there will be an update before that.

Everyone is saying early october, but noone really knows.

That sounds about right though.

You wouldn't be sorry if you had to get the "older" MacBook.
Still an amazing machine.

In my eyes.
Any update that is going to be happening very soon is warrant for a wait...

But I just like to have the newest stuff if possible.

Exactly. I am the same way. I always want the latest stuff! I think I'll probably wait. I can probably survive in college a month or two without my own laptop. :) Might be hard though!

SUPERDRIVE for the lowest end Macbook, please Lord Jobs, please.

I saved alot by buying the low-end MB and upgrading the harddrive and ram from third parties. My only qualms with it is that it doesn't have Super Drive. Using my PC's dvd writer, but I won't be anywhere near it this time next year, so hopefully they'll take a hint and add Super-Drive in the next update. Though I doubt it'll happen.

If that's the case I think I'll go for the higher-end whitebook.

Laptops less than half the price I paid for have Multi-Layer dvd writing capabilities, heck some have Lightscribe.

ALSO, if you're entering an eligible college (assuming you're in the US), there's currently a student promotion till September where buying a Mac gets you a free iPod touch if I'm not mistaken. The update will probably happen after the promotion expires, so you'll have to decide whether the difference between a current macbook and the upcoming one would be significant enough to forgo an iPod touch (or wtv else they offer).

Never. Apple is getting out of the computer biz. Tired of never ending demands to update computers on a frequent basis. :D
