Hi,

I am looking at this very moment at the Apple online store at a MBP 13" and a MBP 15"

Putting similitudes aside, the main difference I see is in the processor. The 15" has a 2.4GHz Intel Core i5, and the 13" has a 2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo.

What is the advantage of having the "i" processors over the Core 2 Duo, and for what applications are they meant?

Is it likely that the 13" MBP may have an "i" processor for the next update ??

Thank you very much, very kind regards,

igmolinav.

i5 is faster so in CPU intensive tasks, the i5 will perform faster than a Core 2 Duo. Without knowing anything about your usage, it's impossible to say which is better for you.

Mobile C2Ds will be EOLed in Q1 2011 so 13" should get iX in early 2011 if not earlier.

Maybe I am wrong, but all iX CPUs have the HT technology built in. That means, you have two physical cores + two virtual cores = 4 cores.

13" getting i5 processor, maybe next year but lot of polices has to change; for normal use you won't fee a great difference, but if you work with video or play a lot, then you will be better with the base 15"

Probably the i3 sometime, but I heard that there was disagreement between nVidia, Apple, and Intel. If Apple put the i3 in the 13 inch, then they would have to use Intel's intregated GPU, and not nVidia's.

When Apple runs out of C2D processors...

Seat tight because you will be waiting for long... very long in fact. Apple makes more profit selling C2D, and since there are plenty of units available at Apple disposal, there's no need to change, at least for the time being ;)

Correct me if I'm wrong but that shouldn't matter. The 13.3-inch MacBook Pro doesn't have an integrated GPU anyway, it only uses the discrete 320M.

Sometime between Nov 2010 & Mar 2011, I know that's quite a big timeframe but like others have said there are a couple of issues that stopped it happening last time they got updated. We should see some form of i3 in the macbook white and i5 in the 13" MBP by early next year if not sooner.

Well hopefully Intel buys nVidia, although I don't see them making any big purchases for a while since they just bought McAfee for like £8 Billion. If Intel buys nVidia, Intel can keep selling intel iX processors with IGP's, we get descent graphics solutions,we get good processors and apple sell more laptops. Great Success ! :D

Okay, you are right.

*When Intel makes an ‘i’ series with either a good IGP or no IGP.

The current IGP is more than fine for an average user. It matches 9400M in performance but the drivers suck so if the drivers are better in Sandy Bridge, the IGP will be just fine.

Do you think Sandy Bridge's IGP will match the actual Nvidea's 320m? We're talking about Intel here! :D

It is said to be at least twice as fast as Westmere's IGP so at least theoretically yes. Current IGP is as fast as 9400M and 320M is twice as fast as 9400M is. However, as I mentioned above, the biggest issue with Intel IGPs are the crappy drivers
