So I'm just curious as to how long you hang on to your laptop until you upgrade? When do you decide to try to sell the old one to recoup some $ to place towards a new one?

My situation is I have a Late 2011 15" MBP.
In Jan 17' I replaced the HD w/a 1 TB (Via Apple)
In Summer 15' Apple replaced the motherboard
In Spring 14' Apple replaced the video card due to a recall.
Everything works fine.

Specs are:
Sierra OS 10.12.6
2.4 GHz Intel Quad Core i7
16GB Memory 1333 DDR3
AMD Radeon HD 6770M 1024 MB; Intel HD Graphics 3000 512 MB
1 TB SATA Storage
DVD Superdrive
Cycle Count: 130

I'm looking at moving to a 13" MBP w/ TB

Thoughts?

I tend to replace once my purchased AppleCare runs out. I have always had a retina MacBook Pro so upgrading parts is a no go. I kept my 2012 15" rMBP for 3 1/2 years and replaced it with a first gen 12" MacBook. sold it when the new 2016 15" MacBook Pros were about to be released.

Well, before I purchased the 2017 MBP 15" six weeks ago I used a 2008 MacBook. That would be 9 years...
