when does a number port?

I have an iphone that will hopefully be shipped tomorrow, and I am porting a number over from Verizon. The phone may not be here until monday/tuesday of next week, and I hoping when I get the phone is when the number ports and not sooner, is that correct?

when you activate it, then it will take up to 24 hours, but usually 5 minutes, sometimes you may experience periods of time where 1 phone will work to make calls and 1 to recieve.. they have to request authorization from your previous account holder and they can either respond right away automated or screw with ya, lol...
