Hi,
I am about to write an iPhone app. Its functionality will be unique in the App Store, there's no other app that does what my app will do.
I want my app to be a great app, not only from the standpoint of functionality, but also UI-wise. So, I took a good look at some of the really good apps for the iPhone, such as Twitter, Things and the likes.
Both apps have UI elements that are (were?) unique to them. For example, take Twitter's main screen where you can swipe over a table view cell and it shows some options like reply, make a favorite, etc. Or the "Pull down to refresh..." and "Release to refresh..." features, also found in Twitter.
Those two features are really useful and I think it would be great if they got implemented in moreIf I recreate (this means I write all the code myself without somehow ripping it from other apps) these features for my own app, what do you think, was it inspiration from useful features, or was it a shameless rip? Wouldn't it be a bad idea to not use some of these very cool UI elements (and rather create something yourself, probably worse), just for the sake of having it done yourself?
Let me know what you think!
P.S.: Don't post answers like "Ugh, you just feel bad about ripping from others and not being creative yourself" without further explanation.
