Hello,

When does iOS8 upload my Photos to iCloud Photos to save space?
The last two days, I only have around 100MB free space on my iPhone, but all of my photos are still stored localy. Can I trigger an upload process? Shouldnt my device automatically upload my photos?

I'm not in the beta program so I can't draw from personal experience, however it's possible the feature is not fully implemented yet.

My understanding is that once the feature is working as intended, the device will upload full resolution originals to iCloud as soon as the device is connected to WiFi (same as Photo Streams) and keep lower resolution copies on the device. I doubt it would wait until the device is filled up.

Before the wipe the other day all of my iphone and ipad photos were uploaded to the cloud. Now they're back on my phone (which is fine for now) but what's confusing is that if I go to settings>icloud>photos it STILL says "sync in progress". Seems that since Monday when I downloaded beta 3 (mid-afternoon) this would have already uploaded. Says the same thing on my ipad.

Both my phone & ipad have had a few hard resets since then so it doesnt seem to be stuck. I wish I could see a progress bar.

Also note that it only uploads Photo's that have been taken on the devices - nothing that has been previously synced from iTunes / iPhoto, etc.

Source?
In my case, the Photos have been taken on the device, but: I had to back it up to my computer due to Apples iCloud wipe two days ago.

Now my iPhone has 0 bytes free space and the Photos are still not uploaded to iCloud to save space...

Also in the release notes.

"The ability to automatically optimize device space is not enabled in this beta."

Have you tried turning off iCloud photo library? Then back on

How much free space do you have on your icloud account?

Oh, I tried that:
