When I check my mail on MBP Mail App, it doesn't update on iPhone

When I check my e-mail on the MBP Mail app, and read the email on the laptop, I still get the e-mail as unread on my iPhone, whereas if I were to go say gmail.com and then read the e-mail, I still get the e-mail on my phone, but its marked as read....what gives? Anyway to fix this?

To summarize, I like when if I check my mail in one place, it updates everywhere else.

Go to Gmail.com and enable IMAP in the settings section.

Then setup Leopard Mail:

Then; setup iPhone:

http://www.google.com/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?answer=138740&topic=14252

You can leave Contacts and Calendar turned off when you enable push Gmail.
