When I close lid of MBA, it's still sohwing on the connected 2nd monitor... good bad?

I have my MBA connected to a 2nd monitor. When I close the lid of my MBA, its supposed to shut down the computer but since 2nd monitor is connected, the monitor is still on showing the tabs/browser. So my laptop is not sleeping or off right? is this bad...since it means my computer is still on....?

If you close the lid of any Mac that has a Keyboard, Mouse, Monitor and charger connected - it goes into clamshell mode where the monitor becomes the only display. At this point either wait for it to sleep or put the machine to sleep manually.
