I log out of MacRumors routinely. However, whenever I log back in, it reports that I’m already logged in!

Why?

I know I logged out, and can confirm that because

1. After logging out, the button at the top of the page says “Log in”!

2. My account and symbol does not show at the top of the forum web pages as they do when I am logged in.

A bug? Am I not really logged out, even though I did so?

Bizarrely, I do not have the problem when I log in and out of this particular forum — only all the others I visit — iPad, iPhone, Mac Silicon, MacBook Air, Apple Watch, etc.

Weird, eh?

Oh, and for anyone who's followed my other saga, text selection in a comment box still regularly scrolls the screen way up, making text selection impossible!

I end up resorting to a trick of separating out text I want to delete or highlight by turning it into a separate paragraph and then acting on it with the triple-click.

Is this on mobile or desktop so I can test? Also, are you able to send a screenshot of the message where it reports you're already logged in?

On an iPad. I'll have to try it on my Mac!

It simply tells me that I’m already logged in. I'll have to log out and log in again to check that. I'll also see if I can manage a screenshot!

Back again!

There must be a timing factor — between log-ins — because this time when I logged out and logged back in, it didn't happen.

A follow-up.

I thought it might be linked to my clearing of history and cookies after I log out of MR. So, I tested this just now. I logged out, cleared all that, and when I logged back in, it gave me the same error message!

The message reads as follows:

MacRumors attracts a broad audience of both consumers and professionals interested in the latest technologies and products. We also boast an active community focused on purchasing decisions and technical aspects of the iPhone, iPod, iPad, and Mac platforms.
Weird, eh?!

But, as to my hypothesis, you'd think that clearing cookies would vanquish any log in information, rather than lead to MR thinking I was still logged in!

Plus, it doesn't seem to happen on the Mac, and there I have cookies cleared every few minutes automatically. So, maybe, cookies are irrelevant.

Hope that helps with the trouble-shooting!

I have seen this myself multiple times as well. I'm not sure if this is a bug or not. Maybe it has to do with the Xenforo code? I'm not too sure however it it looks like this.

Would you two happen to have multiple windows or devices logged into MR at the same time. That could be it.

Nope. Only one device at a time. I am also rarely logged in — only do so if I want to post something. And, then, I always log out afterwards or after the session. Never use multiple windows at any time, either, on my iPad.

Plus, as I mentioned, it doesn't happen on the Mac, just on the iPad.

We're looking into the issue. It could be something with the XenForo code.

Thanks! It's always a bit freaky and it makes one think someone else has logged in; that logging ou ndoesn't work; and that, somehow, I'm being tracked!
