can anyone help;, when i press p;, i get a colon at the same time, this is pretty random and doesnt happen when the mac first starts up;. its a p;owerbook G4 running 10.4.11.

was an accident!

thanks for the advice, to expound the explanation, if i rest my finger lightly on the colon key and dont press it down at all it repeatedly types the colon, almost like an earth or something.
I will try cleaning and let you know.

1) It's a semicolon (press shift and you'll get a colon)
2) You either spilled something, or otherwise damaged the keyboard such that the button below the "p" is activated and you get the ";". Agree with cleaning. If that does not do it, you can learn to hit "delete" after every "p" or take it to a repair center for better cleaning or keyboard replacement.
