When I restored my iPhone 5 today iTunes said it had been unlocked

I have the 32GB AT&T one and when I first got it I set it up as a backup but my battery suffered so today I erased everything and set it up as new and the message came up on iTunes saying congratulations your iPhone has been unlocked, but I never requested it to be unlocked or anything...I did buy it at full price tho without extending the contract...would that have anything to so with it?

yes. full-priced AT&T iphone = unlocked (even when bought attached to a line)
