When I set my iPad down on the Macbook Pro, the screen goes dark???? (why lol)

So if I set my iPad down to rest it on top of my macbook pro metallic area on the trackpad/keyboard area the whole computer goes black.

Then as soon as I take it off it works again.

This is so weird and random.

Can anyone explain this phenomenon??

The MacBook Pro sleeps when the screen is closed. There are magnets/ sensors that tell it when the screen is closed. You are covering or interfering with those sensors.

Just saw this a few days ago. Do you have your iPad in a smart cover case - one with the magnetic flap?
The magnet in the cover triggers the sleep sensor on your MacBook Pro.

This has happened for years and years. Apple even has an article about it.
