I think push notification was promised for the iPhone in October (they didn't specify the year!), so actually I think "July" is considered late January. I'll be REALLY glad about Apple leaving Macworld if they stop giving release dates that aren't met. Don't be the next Microsoft!

Initially promised for the end of January, the unibody version of Apple's largest notebook is moving gradually towards a late February ship date or later for more recent buyers.


Readers tell AppleInsider that their orders for the redesigned 17-inch MacBook Pro, still officially listed as shipping within 2-3 weeks for prospective owners, are now creeping towards arrival dates four or more weeks after the purchase.

In one example, a customer who just ordered his only slightly customized system on Wednesday now says his model won't leave assembly plants in China until February 26th, or nearly five weeks from when he pulled the trigger. The system isn't due to arrive until early March, or roughly two months after it was first announced at Macworld.

Australian readers are also receiving ship date estimates between three to four weeks after they place their orders for stock versions, while choosing the anti-glare display immediately pushes any shipment to between four to six weeks later.

It's really weird seeing the old MBP 17" at the Apple Stores, and nobody is going near them. Today's price for the old MBP 17" was $2299 for the 2.5GHz 320GB which is quite a price drop for the Apple Store...

If you ordered on day one you should get it in January...otherwise you're looking at mid to late February like me.

Haha, I think the 25th is pretty much out of the question. Apple usually doesn't anounce things past my bed time (8PM).

i actually just called my local apple store (Irvine specrum @ Irvine, CA) and they said that they are getting the 17 inchers on tuesday (1/27)!

I pre-ordered a copy of iLife '09 a couple of days ago, and it now says it's shipping Jan. 30. THAT is late January. Not sure on the 17" MBP front, but I hope it's similar.
