New York City!
Day after tomorrow is the iPhone event. If I want to get an iPhone ASAP, when is it that I should have funds ready and try to order/pre order/put a card on file or even pay? Day of the event, a later day? I was never in a rush to order in the past, I always just bought one a few months of them being released.

I'm in the USA, but far from an Apple store, so I'd have to do this online.

Thank you!

They are announced at the iPhone event in early September (September 9 this year). Typically the go on sale for pre-order on the Friday following the announcement (September 12 this year) for delivery/pickup on the following Friday (September 19 this year).

Apple takes payment/charges you card when the device moves from "preparing to ship" to "shipped" - anywhere between Tuesday and Thursday before delivery.

Also note, that when you go to pre-order, Apple will place a hold on those funds, so make sure that when the pre-order opens, that funds are available. The other to note, is make sure the payment method you wish to use, is on your apple account, the day before, as they will, shut down the Apple Store page, and check to see if you can place your intended purchase into your shopping cart, it will save precious time, if you intend to get in early, and beat the hordes.
On the day make sure you have the Apple Store app on your phone, and the Apple Store page loaded (even though it will say it's down) and refresh them both until you get in.

Note, based on recent years, Apple may allow you to put your intended purchase into a shopping bag before Friday's pre-order launch day so that when Friday rolls in, all you have to do is click to purchase.

This technique allows you to choose the phone model, color, storage, accessories, etc - before the "stressful Friday" order window.

Plus remember that delaying ordering on Friday morning launch may end up with later shipping days.

Also, have you considered an Apple Card - I use it everytime when I buy an Apple product.

Their 0% for 24 months term makes it very easy.

Last year I got the 16 Pro and normally I wait till 2 years to purchase a new model but this year, I'll pay off the 16 Pro early and buy the 17 Air on 24 months @ 0%.
