When I run Audacity, which is not in the dock usually, it comes up on my MBP in the dock, with the little blue dot under it. On my iMac, unless it is in the shortcut dock it will not show up there while running, this is new as it did not used to do this?

Any ideas?

The default action of all versions of OS X since its inception will have all open applications present in the dock regardless of whether you have a shortcut to that app in the dock normally. What you're describing is the normal actions of the OS, so on the machine that isn't doing this you must have some sort of 3rd party software altering this, as simsaladimbamba mentioned.

i am having the same issue and i have no 3rd party software that wasn't running under this computer when I was running SL. Specifically, I have no software that looks to manipulate directly the dock.

Furthermore, I find that when I press cmd-Tab, the applications also do not appear.

Does that apply to all apps, or just selected ones? Have you tried restarting your computer?

sometimes a restart helps. sometimes not. and once the issue starts, then it seems all new opened apps that are not in the dock do not show.

i'll be keeping a closer eye on it and hopefully i'll be able to pick up some pattern.
