When restoring from an iCloud backup to set up a new iPhone, is there anything that doesn't typically transfer from the old iPhone?

I kind of remember one year that it seemed some POP mail that was in the inbox of my old iPhone didn't transfer over. Other than that, I can't really recall missing anything.

This year I'm going to be picking up my new iPhone at the Apple Store (don't want to risk a porch pirate) and taking in my old one to trade in. They usually do the iCloud backup setup of the new iPhone right there and then take the old iPhone and wipe it on the spot. Since I won't really have much of a chance to compare before the old iPhone gets wiped, I was wondering is there anything else I can do besides doing a last minute iCloud backup to make sure no data is lost. Is there anything I should backup outside of what an iCloud backup does?

If an old app on your old phone has been pulled from the App Store by the developer, it will not be available to use on the new iPhone because when an iPhone is set up, it downloads the apps from the App Store, not your backup.

Apps can opt out of backups, e.g. Microsoft Authenticator will need to be set up again.

There doesn't seem to be a way to tell whether a given app is being backed up until you restore and find it's not there :(

Similar situation/ concerns here.

As such, I opted to have Apple mail me the trade-in kit so I could do a full 1-1 transfer in the comfort and convenience of my own home.

I’ve had success with old apps, healthcare info, some logins/ security related stuff etc, using the (relatively) newer method of scanning the bubble during initial setup with the phones side by side OR by doing a full backup of old phone on my Mac vs using iCloud.

Whatsapp needs its own back in its app as it will not be restored if not set up again

- You'll usually have to re-pair non-apple bluetooth devices.
- Google will ask you to re-enter passwords.
- Apple Pay credit cards will need security codes re-entered.

Actually I think you can see which apps are part of the backup on a phone by going to iCloud (your picture)/iCloud/iCloud Backup, then tap your Phone under Device backups, and it will show you a list of apps and whether they are toggled on or off.

Personally, I would recommend a direct transfer from one iPhone to another (“scanning the bubble method”).

As for iCloud backup, please check this Apple’s page:

Don't know if this is there right area to post this, but here goes...

I have an app on my iPhone 15 Pro Max (Car Care, by KB Productions), that works fine on my iPhone 15 (18.1 Beta) and has years worth of data that I'd like to keep. Unfortunately, when upgrading to the iPhone 16 Pro Max and moving all my data, it appears to say that app is not on the App Store anymore and cannot be downloaded. I have saved the SQL database the app uses separately, but...

Is there any way anyone knows to move the app from my old 15 to my 16 (i.e., some form of side load or something) where I can copy it off of my 15 and move it to the 16 without going through the App Store? I REALLY would like to have all my previous data and stats and it appears the app works fine (for now) under 18.1.

Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Mike

iMazing will let you do that. It's a very good app for Mac or Windows. Gives you all kinds of other info about your iPhone as well. iMazing - Export, backup and transfer iOS Apps’ Data and Settings
