If I sell my laptop to someone (after de-registering itunes etc and formatting etc), does the buyer need the receipt in order to safely buy the laptop?

Say the computer gets locked out or something, and the buyer needs to contact apple for support, if he has the receipt will it be proof that he is the new owner??

Is there a way to transfer ownership as I don't want to give the receipt, and I'm not really sure it will do anything as the laptop is over 5 years old and no warranty on it.

A) how does the new owner proove he is the owner if he doesnt have the original receipt?

B) if you sell the item, why wont you give the receipt? Hanging it on the wall?

Warranty follows the machine, not the owner. I have bought used Macs and taken them in to Apple for warranty repair and was never asked for proof of purchase.
That's an extra benefit with Apple products.

Just saw that the laptop is 5 yeats old. Receipt won't do any good anyway. And no need for transfer of ownership. Apple doesn't care.
If buyer doesn't agree to no receipt, find a new buyer.

Bill of sale listing the serial number is one way to prove ownership.

A receipt for a 5 year old laptop? Just reset ti to new, clean out everything and sell it. To be sure that the buyer can prove ownership,if that worries you, make a receipt of your own, with yours and the buyers names on it,and of course date of sale. However, when I sold or given away different devices,I never bothered about receipts.

I always give a buyers copy of the receipt as well as a signed purchase contract that explicitly transfers rights etc. Of course, for an old laptop it's not really that necessary, but it's also a gesture that many buyers appreciate.
