When should I expect to see my order change to Shipped?

I ordered two iP7 128GB in black (not jet black). Probably the most readily available model they had. Delivery was set for Friday in the confirmation & even on Apple's site. It still shows that it will be delivered on Friday. However the status is still "Preparing for shipment." I thought all phones came direct from China & not from a US staging area. If the phone is to get here on Friday, when is the latest I should expect to see the status change to "Shipped"?

Or should I just settle in & realize that Friday may not happen after all?

Mine also says preparing on the Apple site. But when I track it by reference number using my phone number on ups.com it shows it in Louisville, which is probably where yours are as well.
