How close to the iPhone 6 release date should I sell my iPhone 5S to get maximum resale value?

Also, any precautions I should take before selling on criagslist? I don't want someone to run off with my phone like some of those horror stories.

Thanks.

Good Grief!

This must be a record for pre planning. :p

You do not even know what the 6 will be like and your poor new 5S is on the block for sale.

Wow some people really plan in advance.

I would sell 1-2 weeks before the announcement, and use a backup phone until the new release.

The closer to a new release, the lower you can expect.

Typically speaking, the general public doesn't follow tech sites, so you can usually wait until the invites go out for the next announcement. Once the next phone is announced, prices will plummet.

Being safe on Craigslist is simple...meet somewhere public.

I try to buy/ sell phones either in an Apple store or, at the very least, from the carrier so the phone can be looked over and activated.

If you do believe in the greater fool theory, then definitely sell before the next annoucement. This may leave you without a phone for a while (unless you have a spare). I would recommend posting in July or August 2014 for max resale value, not September 2014. Waiting untiil the last minute won't necessarily give you the best mileage as non-tech sites eventually catch the iPhone buzz.

#1 precaution is to meet in a public place when selling online to strangers. #2 is you can go with a friend. #3 is you can take their number (You may need to text them to find them when meeting in public too). Good luck!

Yup, sell it now!!! Get a used dumb phone to tide you over!!

Also plan now to sell the 6 on launch day. Stand in line for a day or two to get it early and sell in front of the store to double your money. Hang on to that dumb phone....

If you have to ask, you should probably sell it now... But on a serious note... Follow the jailbreak cycle, jailbreak it, unlock it make sure it's the most updated iOS for the jailbreak then sell it.

I usually sell my iphones 1 month or 2 before the warranty expire which apple usually announce the newer model.

This is what I'm planning on doing.

I just $800 on an unlocked 5S so I want to make sure I don't lose too much money when I sell it.

Lol. This question is actually funny to me because I am going to sell my 5S for the 6. Usually I only like to upgrade every 2 years, and I swore to myself that I would wait for the 6, but I broke down and ditched my 4S for the 5S (will use 4S again temporarily when I sell 5S). Love the 5S but I have a feeling the 6 is going to be something really good.

Anyways, if the 6 is being announced in October again, sell late August/early Sept. I would say a month + before announcement would yield the best profit. Try to sell before the masses catch a glimpse or hear about the new model.

And people calm down, he is jumping the gun and already talking about selling a phone that some people haven't even received yet, but it is a decent question. I mean compared to some sh-t that's posted on here.

Well, this is consumer society for you. Always thinking about the next purchase because what you bought today isn't good enough tomorrow.
