My girlfriend is moving to from T-Mobile to the Sprint network and she was able to port her number over to Sprint as T-Mobile has no contracts that bind her to their service and she can leave when she wants. Her phone will be here next Monday but when should she cancel her T-Mobile service as it will be impossible to use the same phone number on two different companies? How does the process of porting a number to a different carrier even work?

After porting your number T-mobile assumes you are canceling service. You do nothing except pay the final bill T-mobile sends you
