When should we see Quad core MacBook Pros? Also whats after quad core?

I'd love a quad core laptop... that will probably be my next laptop to get.
After 4, it will most likely go to 8 cores. You can get the Mac Pros with up to 8 cores right now, I believe.

Its hard to imagine needing 8 cores the os will be very graphical etc!

In the high-end desktop (and server) segments it's 6. Then 8.

We don't know about the other segments, but I think they'll follow the same pattern, just later.

Considering heat issues, it's easier to make more cores then increasing the clock rate. CPU with high clock rates have high watts rate, while an equivalent speed CPU with more cores will generally have better heat and power consumption.
