…will it be possible to install jailbreak app-stores like Cydia I assume? Basically any app store?

We will have to wait to see how Apple chooses to implement sideloading, and what caveats come with it.

I say this because for me at least, a literal reading of the DMA suggests that Apple only needs to allow sideloading and / or third party app stores, but not necessarily both. If I were Apple, I would choose to permit only sideloading as it is the lesser of two evils (users still have to install each app separately, rather than install an App Store and then have access to an entire library of apps at one shot).

So TL;DR - still too early to say.

Something I will not be doing and I hope anyone who does will have to jump through many hoops to enable it. That road leads to the chaotic cesspit that is Android.
Chaotic cesspit? Lol

I’m on Android (on phone but use iPadOS and Mac otherwise) and think it’s so much better than the limited App Store.

I’m not a baby, I don’t need a babysitter.

I don't, either. But my kids do. My wife, who isn't tech-savy, does.
That's why I hope that this option will be buried deep into the settings, where you can't find it unless you are extremely determined to, and that kids won't be able to activate it themselves.
I bought them iPhones precisely because they were safe for casual users who know didly-squat about IT security. If I had wanted them to be able to install all the crap they might come across, I would have got them Androids instead.

I just want to be able to install some emulators that Apple doesn’t allow to but Android does.
I wasn’t referring directly to you. I don’t know your user case, but side load and “alternative markets” open the way to malware and piracy. I really prefer that to stay with Android.

I wonder what the definition of "side loading" would be anyway. Being able to download an app like a game from different sources but the app is still sandboxed and limited to its own environment or would you be able to install "Tweaks" which have access to the system like changing the App Icons or adding a "Silent icon" to the menu bar to name something.

I doubt it's the latter!

If sideloading allows one to install apps on older/unsupported iPads that could be something to cheer about.
