i have been waiting for a new Apple TV before I purchase one. If I remember correctly, one was recently released so I told hubby I sound like it for Christmas...but then I read that a new one is coming shortly? What do we know about this new one? Significant upgrade?

I really doubt that Apple will release a new one less than a year after they released the last one, pretty atypical for them(yes I know about the iPad 3).
There are rumors, but nothing official. It may support 4K, so if you care about that it might be worth waiting.
"We" know quite a bit just from glancing over the product description at Apple's website. Then there's internet searching for user and reviewer perceptions. Did you have any specific questions about new features and functionality?
