... what information do you research prior to the trip?

Just probing for ideas for a website.

Visa details, currency and price comparisons, time difference, language, religion, special or specific laws and customs.

How much they hate America is usually a good one. Also, if its far in the future take some Pimsler tapes of out of your local library and make an effort at the language.

Depends on where and what you're doing.

Going to London on a business trip would be quite different than going to Morocco for a holiday. Spending 3 days in Singapore is quite different than spending 3 days in Macau or Amsterdam.

Basics are what type of electric socket (most hotels have converters unless hitting backpacker trail), currency, weather, transportation, sights. Get an Embassy number as well.

...London for a holiday?

When I was living in Singapore, I did go to UK/France for a week. Had a great time in London, caught We Will Rock You in the West End with the original cast. Made it to the Eye without too long a wait. Found a few pubs off the tourist grid. Then caught a ride over to France for a few days and enjoyed that as well.

London sure beats trying to navigate through Jakarta or Shenzhen, China, that's for sure.
