when trying to do an upgrade from ios 4.1 to 5.01 it says an unknown error has occured. It cannot upgrade the iPhone 4. I currently have 4.1 of the IOS Jailbroken. It did not freeze or anything but somehow I cannot upgrade. I am using iTune 10.5.2.11

If you jailbroke your iPhone, you might have to Restore it back to factory settings to be able to upgrade.

Also, if after a restore, you still get the error message when trying to upgrade, you might try to download the update to a different computer (not the primary iTunes one), install the upgrade from there but don't sync to that computer when it asks.

Unplug your device and then sync with the main iTunes computer after the upgrade.

I've had to do this every time using my laptop, which is not my primary iTunes sync computer. It works just fine.

Try putting it in DFU mode and then click restore through itunes.

Use Redsn0w to get you device in DFU
