When turned on finder opens mac HD or applications

OK your not being very clear here… you mean when you login after a restart the finder window opens automatically on the desktop? check your login items in the accounts section of system preferences. if the finder is in login items then just select it and press the '-' button.

or do you mean when you open the finder it opens applications by default and not macintosh HD? then yes use the finder preferences as the poster above suggests
