When using two screens, how do I go back and forth without needing to click?

To clarify, I can't control anything on the second monitor until I click to make the screen "active" and then links etc can be clicked. Before I click on the second screen the mouse just hovers over everything.

Then when I go back to my Macbook with the mouse, nothing can be controlled until I click back on this screen, back and forth.

On Windows you can just go back and forth without needing to have only one active.

Any help?
