I, like many people, am on a budget, so timing is important.

Right now, if I buy a MacBook air in store, I can get around $200 off (Best Buy) because of people eager for commission, and various sales going on. an obvious issue in this is I'd be stuck with 4GB of RAM.

But do you think it'd be wise to go buy it now, or in the Christmas season? Lots of sales going on, but would there be any to use as a bargaining tool against stores?

Or maybe I should just pay $300 more for my extra 4GB of RAM.

For me personally there is something special about going and purchasing a mac from the Apple Store. If your a student you'll get the discounted pricing and the $100 gift card to the App Store, or maybe your work has some sort of company discount.

If you're not in a rush, you might want to wait until it's in Apple Refurbished store, presumably around September-October. The discount should be around 15%.

I personally hate Best Buy and would have a big problem buying a Mac there. It would be like having sex with a girl in your grandmother's house. Sure I got what I came for, but I'd be pretty ashamed of myself.

I feel the same way, but I just bought mine online this time (BTO) and I thought store pick up was lame. And when I bought my Powerbook it was from my University bookstore. So in fact I've never actually walked into an Apple Store and out with a new computer. *sigh* Maybe in 7 more years...

I got mine from Best Buy. They are on sale and the sale price mixes with the student discount. I like their plans better too.

If you're an English major, you get a $150 gift card. :D

I'm pretty sure my grandmother would have rather I had sex in her house than shopped at Best Buy! :p

If you want to spend the absolute least amount of money, Amazon. If you want the best "buying experience", Apple Retail Store. If you really need 8GB of RAM on a computer, just go for the MBP. Trust me.

Didn't think of this. I'll be upgrading from 2010 MBA in order to give this machine to my niece as a birthday present in early October, but I'm not in any real hurry to buy before that.

So I've been waiting at least until ML ships preinstalled, because in this situation, why not? But are there any other advantages to waiting?

And that something special would be......................?
