So if the iPhone 5 will be announced this Wednesday, when will it be available for pre-order, would it be the same day or 2 days later (Friday) ? will they have in store pickup? I'm just trying to figure out how this is gonna be done.

Either Wednesday at midnight, or a couple days later at midnight PST.

Rumours for a long time have suggested a Wednesday pre-order kick-off date, but IMO a more sensible date would be the Friday.

I think either at 12:00 that night or a couple of days later. They usually try to stock up to distribute them straight after the release as thats when the major hype is.

No. The 4S didn't have any slips until legit 20 hours after 3am release.

That's good to know actually, I was thinking they would get backordered an 30-60 minutes after it went live.

I have to pre-order two for my parents (who are extending their contract) and one for myself on Verizon.

Yeah, I fell ya. I got up at 4am last year and the site was acting real buggy so I was like oh no all these phones are going to be gone. So I went back to sleep and woke up at 9am and was able to order 2 4S's and received them at launch day at my door step.

The only thing that has been announced is that there will be an event on Wednesday.

They have not announced products.
Or upgrades.
Or preorders.
Or pricing.

Why is this so hard to understand?

well its actually pretty easy to comprehend, I was just wondering how they usually do things with the other iPhone releases. I know the only thing they've announced is the event on Wednesday. I understand whats going on, but it seems like you didn't really understand my question, why is it so hard for you to comprehend?

The original question asked what they were going to do. It did not ask what happened last time.

Nobody knows what they will do this time.

It did seem pretty obvious from the OP's question he was asking for forum member's opinions based on past experience(s).

why don't you do the research yourself? There's a search button.

Didn't other stores offer pre-orders or was it just Apple? Best Buy/Amazon are the places I'm considering.
