Hi all, I am planning on buying my first mac over the phone as soon as you people can download off the app store. At that point is it certain to come with lion preinstalled?

I just want to start it fresh you know.

As you order via the phone, Lion will be preinstalled (unless they mention, that it comes with Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard). The same goes for ordering online (unless they mention, that it comes with Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard). Only the Retail Store Macs will take a while.

Retail Stores are having an "overnight" tonight.
Lion will be available on any new Mac immediately once Lion is released when purchased through official channels.

Cool. Thanks guys.

When I bought my PowerBook back in 2005 it was just when Tiger came out I believe and inside the box was a copy of Tiger to install on it. At least if I recall correctly that's how it was. It's quite possible that new Macs in retail may come installed with Snow Leopard initially with a redemption code to download Lion from the App store.

Leopard came out in 2007. Tiger was released in 2005.

Sorry I've edited my post. I believe Panther was installed on the PowerBook and it came with a copy of Tiger which I then replaced it with. In any case my point was that the new OS was not pre-installed but came on a separate DVD. As Lion will be available only on the App store it's not inconceivable that in the box they will include a code to redeem for a copy of Lion from the App store.
