As the title says. I know the smart cover doesnt' work with the original due to the magnets. However, with its popularity, I'm surprised someone hasn't made something similar for the first iPad, since so many still own them.

Anyone seen anything yet? I have the incase magazine jacket, which is very similar, but the closest I've seen.

I know it has no magnets so it won't work, but I've already heard bloggers state that its popularity would likely cause clones for ipad 1 that work in a different way....but how would they work?

I'll make you one right now, just forward $69.99 to my paypal and I'll send you one.

This is the closest thing I've seen that's Smart Cover-esque for the iPad 1: http://www.goincase.com/products/detail/CL57779

That's the one people are saying apple ripped off and it's the closest you're going to get for the iPad 1.

The ipad 1 has a proximity and light sensor right? If apple wanted to I'm betting they could get it to tell a cover was closed on it and turn the screen off. Not sure why they didn't go that route with the iPad 2. Maybe it's less reliable. but for the iPad 1 it'd have to be setup by apple on the os level.

No need to wait, just use an iPad 2 Smart Cover, glue and 4 magnets.
