Some people wait for Leopard, I wait for OS XI. Any word yet on that?

Well, 10.5 Leopard is almost here. Then we'll have 10.6 Lynx, 10.7 Cougar, 10.8 Ocelot, 10.9 Lion, 10.10 Liger, 10.11 Tigon, 10.12 Leguar, and 10.13 Jagupard. My guess is around 2025 before we see Mac OS 11. :p

Where is that timeline part located? I didn't see it.

I thought for sure we'd have a Calico, Tabbycat, and maybe even a Alleycat.

OSX will get renamed when the underlying kernel gets a massive overhaul. Right now all OSX releases have been based on the OpenDarwin Kernel which was derived from OpenBSD and the NExT OS. My guess is we've got many years still left on this kernel. I think the shift will hit when we start getting more and more cores in the CPUs. My thoughts are somewhere around 16-32 cores we'll see an opportunity to really re-define the kernel OS to really take advantage of multicore/multithreaded operating at a more basic level.

At WWDC 2005 Steve Jobs said that OS X had set Apple up for the next 20 years. That makes me believe that OS XI will arrive in or around the year 2025. OS XI will probably be all 3D and can only be run on touchscreen Macs. By 2025, I believe all macs will be touchscreen. Instead of Hard Drives we will probably be using Flash Drives and OS XI will probably have some enhanced Voice Commands like: You say to your mac to open Safari and go to MacRumors.com and the mac will do it without human help.
I really can't wait to see this kind of technology.

if in 18 years time, we are still using Safari as we know it, the computer industry is in a world of ****.

think about whats happened in the LAST 18 years. for the MAJORITY of users, (im talking about computer users, not mac users) the last 18 years has seen the arrival of a COMPLETELY NEW WAY to use a computer (winderz 95)

I was just using Safari as an example for a Web Browser. It doesn't necessarly mean we will be using Safari in 18 years.

im want to know when the whole web is reduced to a series of XML feeds, so we can have one of those 80s/90s era "futuristic" movie computers where data from "the grid/the nexus/insert crazy name for the 'Tubes" is displayed in the same format.

think about how many times the word "gorgeous" and "boom" would come up in THAT stevenote! (course he'd have a zimmer frame by then!!)

And there will be flying cars, and entire meals in tablet form. All diseases will be cured and there will be no wars/conflict. Poverty will not exist and everybody will live in peace and harmony. Man will have travelled deep into space, setting up colonies on other planets...

erhhh.. no?

Judging what's going to happen in the future is impossible. You're doing exactly the same thing they did back in the 60s when they said we'd be flying to the moon regularly on family holidays, and communicating mobile phones as small as a briefcase. You'll just end up being wildly inaccurate.

I think OS XI should go with Bears

is that a reference to Ron Burgundy and what attracts bears?

also, if the first one isn't Panda, i'll be disappointed.

slightly off-topic. anyone know where i can get a Panda costume? i want to do a road trip, and i think it would make the perfect entertainment, for the passenger to get out @ petrol stations etc and go in to buy stuff dressed as a panda.
