I want the MacBook Air because of its ventless design and I do not need the power that comes with the MacBook Pro but the only drawback is the 60 hz LCD panel. With the iPad Pro getting the OLED display which I assume will make its way to the MacBook Pro, could the M4 Airs also be getting an updated display? That's literally the only reason why I wanna wait and not purchase the M3

Edit: I'm not even asking for OLED, I just need 120hz...

It would be nice but I don't think anyone (other than an Apple insider) can say for sure what Apple will/will not include with the M4.

Apple needs to maintain a significant hardware difference between their Pro and Air so anything at this point would be rumours and predictions in my opinion.

Why? I’d be perfectly willing to pay M4 MacBook Pro prices for a CTO M4 MacBook Air with the tandem OLED display. I buy MacBook Airs for the form-factor not price.

Not saying that Apple is likely to create this option but it would be nice and other manufacturers do it all the time. Even Apple used to have CTO display options.

Although many people would be willing to pay the price, Apple is not likely to offer a Pro screen on an Air any time soon in my opinion. I don't recall Apple ever offering pro hardware (screens, Touch Bar, maximum amount of ram, etc.) on a CTO Air.

It was a quite a long time ago but Apple offered options for either a matte or glossy display for example. I think even longer before then they had different resolution options.

I think my former MacBook Pro (mid 2012) was the last version with a matte, high-resolution CTO display. I would pay up on my MacBook Air to get the same great display.

I’d rather have OLED than 120hz if I had to choose. Will most likely be many, many years however since that’s the entry level MacBook.

My guess would be when the M6 MBA is released, likely with a slight re-design.

I've had various models of the 13" Air since mid-2013 and I've never seen the Air come with any display options. The 13" Air display is the same one that was used on all 13" models from mid-2013 to 2017.

I've swapped parts on many of the 13" 2013 to 2017 Airs and all parts, internal and external, were interchangeable.

The 15" MacBook Pro did have a high-res matte option because I had a mid-2012 15" with the high-res matte display that had a silver frame vs black for the stock screen.

They did put the Pro chip in the Mac Mini (though in the grand scheme of things the M# Pro is the midrange chip). So never say never. I don’t see Apple offering it as a default retail option though.

Until the iPad Air gets 120Hz, I think you will wait a very very very long time.

And actually, until the iPad Air gets OLED, Macbook Air will also be stuck with LCD.

The chances that Macbook Air will get OLED seem higher than iPad Air getting 120Hz within 5 years. Maybe we will see some changes within 10.

The regular iPhone 17 is due to get Promotion displays in 2025 (articles on MR have stated this). The regular iPhone is technically an ‘Air‘ device so the iPad Air 7th gen should get it also. Now the MB Air is due for upgrade to the M4 chip next year (1st Quarter?), so it may or may not get Promotion, but the M5 version definitely should. All the Air devices should have been given 90hz displays years ago though but thats another discussion.

It’s the lower end laptop and it (120hz) is just not super important to the overwhelming majority.

It'll never happen. You want a better screen, but a MBP. That's Apple's marketing strategy-->upgrade you for more profit. Business 101.
