Not just the hands on ones but the real in depth ones (benchmarks, launch tests etc) from our favorite gadget blogs. They get them a few days early don't they?

Pretty sure most the blog sites get them at the end of the Keynote, but I think they are embargoed until a day or two before.

When the phone is launched and people have them physically..

Gosh.. do you people ever think before you asked stupid questions?

Wrong. Mossberg of AllThingsD usually release a review a couple days before. Do your research before you ask stupid questions.

I don't know. Do you? The OP is talking about the media (NYT, Engadget, The Verge, etc) putting up their official reviews. They've more than likely had their review units since the keynote and can't talk about them until a certain time.

Seems like the Engadgets, Gizmodos, etc. of the world release their official reviews a few days before launch. So, midweeks perhaps? :)

tuesday or wednesday night at around 9pm
..wouldnt be surprised to see the embargo life a day earlier this year

^reviews are pretty in depth..what do you want them to do? they go over every new feature.

Wednesday September 19th at Midnight EST. Embargo officially lifted.

Does gizmodo still get review units? They don't even get invited to keynotes :)

Gizmodo will never receive hardware from Apple ever again. Their review will most likely come after the launch because they'll purchase units like regular folk.

Some of my favorite gadget blogs are The Verge, Engadget, Anandtech and arstechnia. While nobody seems to do as much "in depth" as Anadtech, I don't consider the other blogs reviews to be "basic", either.

If it helps any, here's a google of the review dates for the last two iPhones.

10/31 = Anandtech "thorough" review
10/18 = Arstechnia review
10/14 = iPhone 4s launch
10/14 = Engadget review
10/11 = The Verge review

6/30 = Anandtech "thorough" review
6/28 = Arstechnia review
6/24 = iPhone 4 launch
6/22 = Engadget review

yeah, engadget/the verge normally publish an in-depth review of new apple tech they day they officially get released.
