I see the threads discussing all about order statuses changing to preparing for shipment(mine still says processing), but when would the devices actually have to leave where they are to get here on time by Friday?

I saw some stuff about 16GB phones going out last and something about orders from the east coast going out first because it's further away from China; not sure if either of these are true.

I heard its true about the china thing, dont know about the other one though. I think the china one is true, because I live on the east coast and when the 4 came out i got mine a day early and so did a lot of my friends, but like ALL of my friends from arizona-cali didnt. in fact 1 got it a day late

Oh, well good! That'd be awesome to get it a day early. Where on the east coast are you located?

Well now FedEx locks the phones up so no one does get them a day early like last year i didnt get my 4s a day early but i got it at like 3pm on the day. Im in Long Island,NY wbu? And im still on standard shipping delivers on 9/21.

Gotcha. I'm in Atlanta. Mine also says standard shipping on 9/21. 16GB Black AT&T.

I know it'll get here when it's suppose to get here. I just like to know where it is, haha.

Who says that the order status' on Apples Website accurately reflect where the phones are physically at the time?

If you have a delivery date of the 21st, you will get it on that day. I have had previous times where the status never changed, until FedEx was outside my door.

It doesn't a lot of the time. I'm just looking forward to a tracking number when it ships. From personal experience in the past, even the tracking numbers aren't always up to date with the iPhones.

i ordered from atlanta area too, mine says preparing for shipment.

Same here. I ordered from Atlanta but mine still says "processing" -- I ordered a black 16GB. I guess if it's coming via FedEx, Memphis should get it first. That being said, I would really love to get the phone a day early.

If the phone is anywhere in the US with a US delivery location, it could be in Fedex hands mid to late evening on Thursday and still get you without a problem. In reality, that is probably not what will happen.

It really depends on where you iPhone 5 is purchased from how it gets to your address.

Apple units for the most part will come direct from China via Anchorage Alaska. From Anchorage most will go to Memphis, TN (FEDEX) or Lousville KY (UPS). Some other units will go directly from Anchorage to specific regions.

If you ordered from a carrier, they will be receiving bulk shippments and then they have to beak them done for your individual order. So they have to receive your iPhone 5 by Thursday to get it out to you for Friday.

I would expect the Apple orders to begin to receive Tracking numbers first since they are direct to customer.
