Where are alert sound files located?

I would like to find where certain "apple alert" sounds are located.

(Already used spotlight without any luck)

Sounds like:

Sosumi
Basso
Purr
Pop
Ping
etc.....

They are in .aiff

Anyone know of a good audio converter for macs? (Need it in Mp3)

iTunes will convert them to MP3 if you like. Just select your MP3 settings in the Importing pane of the Preferences, drag the file sinto iTunes, and then use the Convert To MP3 function in the Advanced menu.
