Where are desktop pictures stored?

I'm running 10.8.4.

I want to add some photos to the location where the OS stores what are called Desktop Pictures. I'll be darned if I can find the folder where those photos are located.

I've done searches here and gotten conflicting answers, and none of them seem to work for me.

Where is it?

And if I should not be using that folder, where should I put my photos I want to use as Desktop Pictures?

Thery're located in Macintosh HD, Library, Desktop pictures.
