Where are my Finder tabs?

I just installed Mavericks and was expecting to see folders open in tabs in Finder.
No tabs

They only appear as you create them

Command+T creates a new tab

Open finder and press command>T for new tabs. You can also open finder and File>New Tab

Aha! Thanks.
I expected each folder to open a new tab as it opened. Evidently not
So you Command + T then open a folder in that tab then do the same again for a second folder. Hmm.

Finder -> Show Tab Bar

If you want them to keep showing

You can also click on view > Show tab bar.

That will show you a small area at the top right to just click to open a new tab.

View Show tab bar shows what I expected to see at first.
