I usually use Firefox but thought I'd try out Safari. I click on a site and add it to my bookmarks but it doesn't show up under "Bookmarks" (like every other browser)!

What's the deal?

So basically Apple is doing something counterintuitive? Instead of clicking on bookmarks and seeing bookmarks I have to click on that book looking thing to see my bookmarks?!

No. You added it to your bookmark BAR. Not the menu. Your bookmark bar is at the top. If you dont see the link embedded in the bookmarks at the top next to that icon you dont have "show bookmarks bar" turned on.

Click on view>show bookmark bar.
