where can I change font size of screen menus and application menus

I was about to order an iMac when I noticed that the font size of screen menus and application menus barely visible. when asked they said it cannot be changed at the Apple store.. that is ridiculous... even in Windows XP or I have done that 10+ years ago or more... in windows environment
