Hi, I'm dissapointed with the current Handbrake 0.9.2 version as it is about 3 times slower to encode at the same settings I used in 0.8.5b1. I was googling around for the download link, but all of them either point to the current 0.9.2 or give the 404 error.

Foolish me to delete 0.8.5b1 dmg from my HD after I got 0.9.2...

Or if somebody has the 0.8.5b1 version could he sent it to me? (PM)

Thanks...

I like Azureus, but you can use any torrent program you like.
- Install your torrent manager (Azureus)
- using your browser, go back to the first link I gave you click on the link for the file you want
- download the torrent file (this is just a reference file to be used by the torrent manager)
- With Azureus, the download will start automatically. Other apps require you to open the torrent file before it will begin downloading.
Hope this helps.

Hi,

I can recommend Transmission to download torrent files.
Fast, lightweight and does the job. Can also watch a directory for new .torrent files and add them automatically.

EDIT: Make sure you send feedback to the developers of Handbrake. It might be useful to them.

Thanks a lot! :)

I installed Transmission and downloaded the reference file, but the app wont download

I feel even more dumb now lol :eek:

EDIT: I was looking around for solution and in the preferences of Transmission I found this:

"Incoming TCP port: 51413, Port is closed"

But I dont have firewall enabled and it is set in the Security System Preferences to "Allow all incoming connections"

hmm

Hi,

check of your router has NAT enabled, so Transmission can automatically open a port for itself.

How torrents work
In the traditional way you downloaded from one server, handling all the load and you'd only be on the receiving end (you don't send anything to a server you download from)

With torrent files (P2P) you download from a number of users, having this file on their computer as well as you upload the stuff you have to other users. More information on Wikipedia.

So what's probably the case here, is that no other users have this file on their hard drives or share it and thus you can't download it.

Have you tried to email the developers and ask for an older version?

Hi, thanks for the reply :)

Not sure what NAT is, but my router is AirPort Express 802.11g...

Other torrents that I tried worked and recently some kind soul started seeding me this Handbrake, but now he left while I'm at only 10 MBs (of 15) so I guess I'll just keep it open until anyone else shows up...

Its kinda odd though that if no one is downloading the file it can't be downloaded... So I guess torrents are very short-lived :(

Hi,

NAT is a router setting that allows applications to open certain ports. As Transmission works for you, no action is required here. Search for NAT on the Transmission help, if you want.

The life time of a torrent depends a lot on the content of it. Handbrake is freeware and can easily be downloaded from the developers site, so I doubt a lot of people share it.

Other sites, such as Jamendo.com (a great place for free, legal and fresh music) use torrents as well to enable their users to distribute music. Most of the time I get great download speeds.

Well I finished downloading older Handbrake, but apparently the downgrade didnt help.. :( I'm still getting 20-23 FPS on iPod Hi-Res preset...

Ahh I remember the times when I was getting 30-40 FPS on the same settings.......... I wonder what happened?

But thank you all here anyway :) You have introduced me to the world of torrents I've never been in. (though I dont really benefit from p2p concept as my speed limit is 8 kbyte/sec  )

Yeah I got the same problem, I need the 0.8.5b1 version.

Could someone seed that torrent?

:D:apple:

+1 Transmission gets more seeds than any other torrent program on any platform. And go to their website, google it. They have download links there.

i understand this is an old thread however i am interested in acquiring this version of handbrake as well if you could pls provide me with the link if you still have it or seed it via torrent thxs
