Where did Mojave Desktop icons go?

17,1 Mojave iMac/10.14.1/20GB iCloud storage/syncing/ suddenly today following reinstalling Mojave from the internet I no longer have any icons anywhere for the desktop. I normally save most files to the desktop to quickly do another task. How do I save to desktop with not icons, drag and drop ONLY now?

I have reinstalled Mojave 10.14.1 twice today from the internet, repaired the startup disk from the internet both times. Still no desktop icons in the left side menu.

I found System/Library/Core Services/Finder.app, and double-clicked, but nothing.

Have you looked at Finder Preferences?

Man, am I embarrassed. Thanks, flowrider. but I finally saw the SHOW button, and since I sync w iCloud my documents, there is only one icon, and I had to SHOW it.
