so I'll simply state, where did my memory go?

I was watching a movie in vlc (which oddly doesn't increase VLC's memory) and what looks to be the entire movie is moved to ram - rather then just the 500ms I specified...

Secondly as the memory isn't allocated to VLC, then what is responsible for handling it? (quiting VLC doesn't free the memory, the drop in the attachment is because i did a "purge")

shouldn't OS X drop the parts of the file no longer needed, instead of moving them to swap?...

I don't get it...

1.72+3.31 = 5.03
2.96+2.10 = 5.06

5.03 is very close to 5.06, so are you complaining about the 30 or so MB difference?
