Hi all
Sorry if this is trivial. I'm still learning my iPhone. I set up Gmail via exchange so that I can get the push feature. For a while I noticed whatever was in my inbox (online Gmail) was the same on my phone inbox. However now I see the phone inbox doesn't have the same ones as the inbox in my Gmail account. I'm confused as to why? I don't recall ever deleting them from my phone inbox. Besides, if I did, it would have removed them from the Gmail account as well.

Any insight would be appreciated. Does the iPhone purge emails after so many days?

Thanks

Arghhh...now I just noticed in my Gmail account I see all my labels now have "zero" emails in them. Oh no where did they go????

I've had a similar problem with the dissappearing email, only happens on large mailboxes and I haven't found a fix other than keeping my inbox "small" (less than 200 messages) and moving all other messages to different folders.

As far as the labeled messages, the mail app treats each label as a separate folder. Only the inbox downloads by default. The messages will appear once they load.

Damn could it be a made a grave error on my Iphone? Would all my emails in Gmail (even in the labels) also be listed in the "All Mail" folder? If so, I think I may have deleted all of them on my Iphone thinking it would only erase it there. If I did do that, then the assumption is it cleared out all my "label" emails in the Gmail account too? Can anyone confirm if this is the case?

Oh this sucks!!

What I can't figure out is why does does the inbox in my iPhone not show the same emails that are in the inbox in my Gmail account? They used to be there now they don't match.

Thanks

Since your new to the iPhone, I'm guessing that your mail app set up was very minimal. For gmail, the mail app defaults to archiving the message and not deleting it so you do have a chance to recover if that's the case.

If it's not, check the trash???

There is the trash on the phone, and the deleted items folder/label that's on the gmail server.

Thanks for the reply. I appreciate the help.

Hopefully I can clarify.

I set up my gmail account as exchange. Gmail recently released the fix to when you delete from your iphone it deletes from Gmail (no longer archiving only).

So if I were to delete the other emails on my iphone inbox it should have deleted them from my Gmail inbox too. The problem is, they're not in my iPhone but in my Gmail inbox.

I just can't figure out why.

Edit: I implemented Gmail's fix yesterday. So perhaps what I did was a timing thing. Before I implemented the fix, Maybe I deleted my inbox on my iphone which placed it into trash then cleared my iPhone trash. At this point I think it still keeps it in my inbox on the Gmail account. However if I were to delete something now in my iPhone it automatically deletes from Gmail account as well.

Check in Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars

What does it say for Mail Days to Sync?

It's sounds like the email that isn't showing has just "expired" and no longer syncs.

Thanks for the reply. It says 3 days for all of my Gmail accounts on my Iphone. I guess I don't understand what that does. Does it mean after 3 days, it will remove what in my inbox (on my phone) but keep it in my Gmail account)?

Thanks!

Yeah, it will only show emails less than 3 days old.
I have mine set on No Limit which is great until I look at any of my labels and it tries to download everything.

Thanks. So it also affects all emails in my labels and not just my inbox (on Iphone)?

I think that solves my first problem. Now my other issue is where did all my emails go in the Gmail account (in my labels). I'm thinking/dreading/worried I accidentally "erased" everything in my "all mail" folders which I think would erase everything in my labels folders too.

God what a bummer...so many emails gone.
