Back in 2001ish, I bought a DELL 15" laptop that had a standard resolution of 1600x1200. Yes, this was before wide screens. My question is, what happened to this nice resolution (or today's 1900x1200) on lower end laptops? I have good eyes and like screen real estate. What caused the hi-res to go away? Is it the advent of LCD panels? I know I can get 1900x1200 on the 17" MacBook Pro, and just may do that when they are refreshed in a few months. But if I could get the hi-res on a 13" MacBook or a 15" MacBook Pro, I'd be all over it. Oh, I an I know this isn't really a vendor (DELL vs. Apple vs. ...) specific question. My next computer WILL be from Apple.

I thought the same thing when doing the research to buy my new MB Alu, but I will saying, using them side by side (Macbook vs. Dell 17 inch), I don't think I would want the 1900X1200 on the MB display. I have good eyes, and just don't think a 13 inch screen is big enough to handle the res....

Yes, I can understand that. But, on the 15" would be nice.
My new 15" Dell with an Intel Core 2 Duo has a wide screen resolution of 1440 X 900. I would not want it to have 1900 X 1200. Maybe on a 17", but then again, maybe not.

I'm running the same resolution on my 15" now and it's not good enough. I can easily see 1900x1200 on 15".
